My thoughts on AI policy.

That's on my email signature line. Why? Because it's true. But also because I want people to know that, while I partner with AI to get better results for my clients, first and foremost I bring real-world experience, judgment, and actual JOY to every interaction.

What I’m curious about is, what are others' AI use policies? Are they formalized? Does it vary from person to person within the same org? Or even the same team?

It makes sense that people are wary, and even burned out on repetitive, obviously AI crafted content. AI is used to cut corners or to replace judgment instead. Many point out that AI was trained on human knowledge, without actually crediting people specifically. Valid on all points!

But imho, when it's used well, in partnership with someone who knows the work, AI doesn't replace judgment, it extends it. I can move faster, catch things I might've missed, and spend more of my time on the parts of my job that actually help people. To me that’s the difference: whether AI is doing the thinking for you or whether it's freeing you up to do more of your own, better thinking for the people you serve.

I've seen both uses. AI without judgment produces work that's fast but forgettable. Judgment without AI is slower than it needs to be, and in a practice like mine, slower can mean a client waits longer for the coaching and strategy work that actually moves them forward. Neither one on its own gets you where you want to go. Together, they do.

My recommendation is that every organization should have an AI policy you can point to. Partners, customers, and clients deserve to know your practices using this industry-transforming new capability.
